On January 1, 2020 a new law in came into effect in California which updated the process by which home owner’s associations conduct annual elections. In order to comply with this new law, HOAs across the state were obligated to update and pass new election rules for their communities, which were mailed to the membership at the end of January. While the association typically holds the election in February, the time required to allow for comment on the rules, as well as the new process itself which was lengthened as a result of the law, pushed the election back to August. Please note that the postponement is only for this year. The election will return to February beginning in 2021, barring unforeseen circumstances.
